The objectives of the 2009 conference were:
Charlie Hindmarch, Research Assistant in the Henry Wellcome Laboratories for Integrative Neuroscience and Endocinology (HWLINE), hosted the event. The opening address was from Professor Len Hall, Pro-Vice Chancellor. The key note speaker was Richard Reeves, the Director of Demos. Demos is a think-tank focused on power and politics. It searches for and communicate ideas to give people more power to shape their own lives. Richard's interests include the economics and politics of wellbeing; trends in British politics; and the future of the workplace.
Following Richard's address, Kate Tapper from Bud Development, facilitated an energiser session entitled: What for you is the point of research? Morning and afternoon sessions were available and covered the following:
Professor Martin White from the Institute for Advanced Studies ran a plenary session entitled: 'Holding your own in the reserach arena'
An extended lunch provided an opportunity for networking and visiting stands from exhibitors: BBSRC, RED, WUN, International Office, Sports Exercise & Health Science, Vitae, UCU. Delegates also had an opportunity for workplace massage and manicures provided by students from City of Bristol College.
The event finished with a summing up from Charlie followed by drinks in the Theatre bar.
