New to the University links and documents
Dear Colleague,
First and foremost a warm welcome to the University of Bristol!
I am delighted that you have chosen to join an organisation which is committed to the very highest standards of international research; an important part of which is a strong commitment to the training and career development of our research staff.
As well as being a central part of your particular research team, you have joined a research staff group which, across the University, comprises over 1000 individuals; as such we recognise that you are crucial to the success of our institution.
Indeed, the well-being and career development of researchers in Bristol has been a central part of our overall Human Resources agenda for many years. So I am pleased to inform you that, in addition to the support you will receive from your local research team, your line manager and department or school, we have a central University team dedicated to making your career at Bristol as productive as possible.
My own role as Pro Vice-Chancellor with personnel and staff responsibilities, involves directing and leading the corporate policy in relation to the employment of all 5500 staff at the University. This includes leading further development of our exciting Positive Working Environment Agenda, a key aim of which is to ensure that the needs of Research Staff are addressed as best we can. Moreover, as someone with over 30 years' active research experience in biomedical sciences, from research assistant through to research group leader, I have a particular interest in research staff well-being and development. Indeed I have been an active member of the University's Research Staff Working Party since its inception; a committee which I now Chair.
Once again, welcome. I wish you a very productive, rewarding and enjoyable career with us at Bristol.
Yours sincerely,
Professor Len Hall, Pro Vice-Chancellor
