Objectives

In this unit, we study the development of the modern Russian novel, from its beginnings in works by Pushkin, Lermontov and Gogol to its flowering in the work of Turgenev, Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. Not all these writers will necessarily be covered each year, and some years we may trace the novel’s development further into the twentieth century.
