Fire safety
Fire safety management information contained in this section is designed to help protect, so far as is reasonably practicable, employees and anyone else affected by the work of the University against fire and the effects of fire.
The University Fire Safety Advisor can provide further relevant advice, assistance and training for anyone working for or on behalf of the University.

The University of Bristol is committed to promoting access for people who have a disability or long-term medical condition. This includes consideration of the requirements to enable safe and effective evacuation from buildings in an emergency. - A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) is required for staff or students whose disability is known and could prevent them leaving a building without assistance in an emergency.
- A Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP) is required for all university buildings and would be offered to occasional visitors.

Fire risk assessment example (doc, 300 kb)- A fire risk assessment (FRA) is only as good as the information that you put into it. It must reflect what is happening in the building and it must be current.
- The FRA will be the responsibility of the facilities manager but assistance and information must be provided by school or service staff.
- The current FRA should be held in section 2 of the Building Fire Manual ring binder in the red fire document box by the fire alarm panel.

The University takes its responsibilities for fire safety very seriously and is committed to achieving the highest possible standards. This training provides a useful tool to help managers ensure that their staff have adequate and up to date fire safety knowledge. The tutorial can be used as part of an induction for a new member of staff, or may also be used as a refresher to update the fire safety knowledge of existing staff.
On successful completion of the training, a certificate can be printed to keep as a record of training and for CPD purposes.

Fire Extinguisher Training presentation (PPT, 2.7 Mb)- This training material is intended to provide basic understanding of the need for portable fire extinguishers and how to use them. It is an assessed event and refresher training is required annually.
- The initial event lasts around one hour.
- Subsequent refresher training events last around 30-45 minutes.
- Training is delivered indoors so is not weather-dependant
- The training is aimed at fire wardens, lab technicians, porters, security officers etc but anyone can attend if they want.
