  • Fast-track cell culture training 25 November 2014 This two day introductory course delivered by ECACC at the CATIM facility in Bristol (UWE campus) has the overall aim of ensuring scientific reproducibility through standardised cell culture. It has a mix of lectures and hands-on practical activities and is aimed at busy researchers who use cells in their work who may not have the time or budget to attend the comprehensive four day Fundamentals of Cell Culture Course delivered by ECACC at Porton Down.
  • Shipping biological substances training 21 November 2014 Biological material used in research or teaching may present a hazard and require special handling for transport. All samples also represent an investment in time, effort, and other resources. Therefore they should always be packed and labelled properly, and accompanied by appropriate paperwork to prevent damage or loss during carriage, regardless of whether transport regulations apply or not. Material subject to transport regulations must be packed under the guidance of a trained and certified individual within an organisation. This course covers both national and international carriage and will help faculties, schools and laboratories to fulfil that obligation.
  • Hazardous chemical management policy consultation 5 November 2014 This policy is intended to replace the existing 'Control of chemically hazardous substances code of practice 2002' and is now open for consultation. Several informal sessions to allow further discussion of the policy have also been arranged.
  • Consultation on student placement guidance 18 August 2014 We are now consulting on the revised student placement guidance. The aim of this guidance is to advise schools and departments on the requirements necessary to effectively manage the health and safety risks arising out of student placements. This consultation will be open until 8th September 2014, further details are contained within the consultation document.
  • Near miss reporting goes on-line 11 August 2014 We have introduced a shorter on-line form that can be used for easily reporting dangerous occurrences/near misses and environmental incidents where no person was injured or harmed.
  • Fire Brigade Strike Announced 9 June 2014 Avon Fire and Rescue Service have announced their latest round of strike action as follows: The first strike will take place on Thursday 12 June for 24 hours from 09.00hrs. This will be followed by a second strike on Saturday 21 June from 10.00hrs to 17.00hrs.
