The public and Synthetic Biology

Dek Woolfson talks with BBC Radio Scotland's Ken MacDonald and Talk Sport's Ian Collins about Craig Venter's synthetic bacteria (May 2010)

Synthetic Biology is a new and growing discipline that brings together basic scientists and engineers to create biologically inspired systems that perform new functions. Alongside their academic pursuits members of the Synthetic Components Network are committed to engage with the public to explain reflectively and debate this new area, including possible concerns & ethical issues, and aspirations and potential benefits to science and society.

In the following pages you can find information for the public, including details of activities we're planing, public events we are hosting and much more.

For scientists there is information about public engagement, which included a number of resources available to support public engagement activity.
