The UCard access control system has introduced a flexible ‘smart’ card which allows for additional functions to be added in future, such as cashless catering, IT access for example.
The first phase of the project is complete and has seen the installation of two manufacturer’s readers – HID Corp and Salto. Phase 2 (subject to funding approval) will look to extend access to all other key academic buildings and large student residences together with the roll-out of visitor and contractor management solutions.

From the beginning of July 2011, all Group 4 readers will have been replaced and old ID cards will no longer work.
