Multimedia Centre

Immerse yourself in foreign languages and culture in the school’s state-of-the-art Multimedia Centre, which opened at the end of 2009.

The centre is equipped with a teaching room but the remainder of the facility is designed for students to use for private study.  There are five rooms in total, each dedicated to different activities:

  • The Teaching Room is a Language Lab where all 24 PCs can be controlled by the lecturer, who also has a projector and screen.
  • The Project Room can be booked for small group work and audio recording.
  • The Media Suite contains 17 PCs for drop-in use.  It also has printers and a colour photocopier/scanner.
  • The Social Learning Room encourages learning in a relaxed, common-room type atmosphere.  Four large plasma TVs can be used for watching satellite TV or films in small groups.  We subscribe to a small selection of foreign newspapers and magazines.
  • An 18-seat Screening Room is wholly dedicated to student bookings.  Blackout blinds/subdued lighting, surround sound, excellent soundproofing and comfortable seating complete the cinema experience.

Centre opening times

The Multimedia Centre is available all year round (except on University closure days) Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 5pm, extended until 8.45pm Mon-Thurs during term time.

The school's state-of-the-art Multimedia Centre creates a great study environment to work in.

Key facts

Every computer and screen in the MMC can access foreign satellite TV and has a DVD player, headphones and microphone.  Dictionaries and grammar books are also provided.

We have a collection of 1700 film titles on 2000 DVDs for use within the MMC.  New titles are constantly being added.

Students can borrow semi-professional voice recorders and high-definition video cameras for oral practice, presentations and projects.

Support is provided for all equipment and resources by a Learning Technologist with a background in film, media and IT.
