Research summary

Currently I am working on a research project that examines the role of the interview through the prism of listening and the ethical relation in a selection of films and documentaries. The case studies I have chosen focus predominantly on works by French, Francophone and European women filmmakers. My first book, Godard and Sound: Acoustic Innovation in the Late Films of Jean-Luc Godard (I.B.Tauris, 2017), explores the relationship of sound to vision and in turn our relationship as spectators with the audio-visual in the later films and multimedia work of the Swiss-French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. Albertine joined the Department of French at Bristol in 2017 having completed her PhD at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her thesis explored questions of sound and spectatorship in the 1980s film and video work of Jean-Luc Godard. After completing her doctoral studies, she was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship in Modern & Medieval Languages at Churchill College, University of Cambridge. She also holds a BA in French with Music and an MA by Research on the 1970s cinema of the French writer and filmmaker Marguerite Duras.
