Research summary

My current research examines the role of the interview through the prism of listening and the ethical relation in films and documentaries by French, Francophone and European filmmakers. Part of this project is particularly concerned with the work of Chantal Akerman. Other research interests that dovetail with this project include installation art, theories of voice and listening, sound and relationality, and storytelling. My first monograph Godard and Sound: Acoustic Innovation in the Late Films of Jean-Luc Godard is published with I.B.Tauris and explores the relationship of sound to vision in cinema, and in turn our relationship as spectators ...

Albertine joined the Department of French at Bristol in 2017. After completing her PhD in French at Royal Holloway, University of London, she was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship in Modern & Medieval Languages at Churchill College, Cambridge. She also holds a BA in French with Music and an MA by Research on the films of Marguerite Duras. Her doctoral thesis was entitled 'Acoustic Spectatorship: the 1980s film and video work of Jean-Luc Godard'.
