Ms Beatriz Arias

Biography

Beatriz Arias obtained her Spanish Qualified Teacher Status (PGCE) at the University of Bristol, Graduate School of Education. She has worked as a Language Tutor at the University of Bristol since October 2000 and has taught on the University-wide Language Programme (UWLP), formerly known as Applied Foreign Languages or AFL and Lifelong Learning Language Programme. She has also been involved with the teaching of Spanish Language to students who are taking an honours degree at the Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. Over several years, she has taught Spanish to military personnel of the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the UK to provide specific preparation of candidates for the MODLEB examinations at Advanced Certificate and Diploma Level.

Ms Arias joined the Open University in 2002 and has also been responsible for tutoring groups of students on the Open University BA (Honours) Language Studies Module, where she worked for 12 years through the teaching of an online course.

She spent over 5 years teaching Spanish for Business and Legal Spanish to professionals in prominent business organisations (e.g. Goldman Sachs, KPMG, Rothschild, Allen & Overy, Banco Santander, etc.) in the City of London and more recently she has provided Spanish language tuition to members of staff at BAE Systems Airbus in Filton, Bristol.

In 2016 she studied for an online course with University of La Rioja (Spain): ‘Certificado de Especialización en Didáctica de la Geografía Lingüística Hispánica para la Enseñanza del Español L2/LE’. This course is a stand-alone module on linguistics of a master’s degree.

October 2016 she was awarded the University of Bristol Fellowship of CREATE and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
