I am completing work on my second monograph entitled Angola in the African Atlantic, which is a historical inquiry into the influence of ideas about race on the construction of Angola's post-independence national identity. In general, I am interested in the dynamic relationship between culture and transnationalism, with a focus on Latin America (particularly Cuba and Brazil) and Portuguese-speaking Africa.
