Research summary

Connor Doak works primarily on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian literature and culture, with a special interest in gender and sexuality and their relationship to war and political change. He has published in journals such as Modernism/modernitySlavic and East European Journal and Forum for Modern Language Studies. He is currently working on a monograph exploring how the poet Vladimir Maiakovskii uses verse to negotiate the shifting terrain of masculinity in revolutionary Russia and the early Soviet period. Biography

Originally from Northern Ireland, Connor obtained a BA from Cambridge (2005), an MSt from Oxford (2007), and a PhD from Northwestern University (2013). In 2012–3, he was awarded a Dissertation Completion Fellowship from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and American Council of Learned Societies as he finished his PhD on Mayakovsky's poetry. He joined the Bristol staff in 2013. In 2017, he was awarded a British Academy Rising Stars Engagment Award (BARSEA) to launch a UK–Russia Research Network.
