Professor Judith Bryce

Biography

Judith Bryce went on from Inverness Royal Academy to study Italian and French at the University of Aberdeen (MA, 1970), completing a PhD, also at Aberdeen, in 1977. She was appointed to a lectureship at the University of Hull in 1973, going on to become head of department before taking up the first chair of Italian at the University of Bristol in 1994. She was head of department from 1994 to 2000 and chair of the School of Modern Languages from 2003-06. A former editor of the Journal of Gender Studies, she completed five years as editor of Italian Studies in 2006. She is currently Chair of the Society for Renaissance Studies.
