Abstract
An analysis of the allegories of Le Pastoralet and le Quadrilogue Invectif considering what they can say, as allegory, which could not be said in a chronicle or treatise. The texts are contemporaneous (c. 1422) but written from opposite political perspectives. Using allegory they make the invisible visible, using the power of imagery polemically and readily contrast the ideal and the real by means of literary devices; they can also re-iterate myth without interrogation.
