Dr Marianne Ailes


My undergraduate teaching includes: Introduction to Medieval Literature; Before the Novel, experiments in prose fiction; From Old to Middle French; The Crusades and their Representation in Medieval French Literature. I also contribute to first year core courses on Shaping France and Reading Literary and Visual Cultures.

I am currently Programme Director for the MA in Medieval Studies.

I have supervised or co-supervisedthe following recently completed PhDs:

Jade Bailey: 'A Study and Partial edition of Fierabras in British Library Royal 15 E VI' (graduated 2014)

Tamzin Simmons: 'Dante and Memory' (completed 2014)

Hannah Walters: Clerical Cultures In Twelfth And Early Thirteenth-Century Anglo-Norman Narrative' (submitted 2014)

I am currently supervising a  Phd on ‘From History to epic: The Siege of Antioch in Chanson de Geste Literature’ and an M.Phil student looking at medieval romance.
