Dr Mark Allinson

Dr Allinson teaches a range of units in the German Department and the School of Modern Languages, focusing on the political history of Germany and on wider issues of European political development.

In 2016/17 he is teaching MODL 30001 Communism in Europe (with Dr Rajendra Chitnis); MODL 20008 Political Systems of Modern Europe; and GERM 22037 Divided Germany (with Christophe Fricker).

He is happy to supervise Independent Studies projects in the broad field of modern German and comparative European history, particularly with reference to the history of the German Democratic Republic. He has also supervised Masters and doctoral theses in these fields, and is currently co-supervising two PhD students - one on the behaviour of visitors to sites commemorating difficult histories, the other in translation studies with a focus on a GDR children's text.
