Options 2013 - 14 Joint School Degree Programmes
Modern Languages optional units are now available. Please remember that each programme is structured differently and some of the options available to you will vary according to whether you meet the pre-requisites for the unit.
We have introduced some additional units that are taught across the School as a way of giving you greater choice on your programme of study. These options encourage you to think across conventional national boundaries and will allow you to develop the skills in inter-cultural analysis that are highly valued in graduates of Modern Languages. They may also give you the opportunity to study areas that are not covered in your home department(s). We have also added units in beginners Catalan and Czech for those of you who would like to learn another language as part of your degree.
School units all begin with the MODL code. Just list these as a preference, as you would with the other units.
NB. Students may only take ONE MODL unit as part of their degree programme.
You must return your form by:
Year 2 and 4 - 4.00pm Thursday 28 March 2013
Once allocation is complete you will be informed of the units you will be taking. Every effort will be made to place all students on the units of their choice, subject to timetabling.
When choosing an optional unit, you may like to take into account a number of factors including:-
- How the unit ties in with career plans you may have
- Personal interest in the subject matter
- Your academic strengths
- How the learning is delivered in the unit e.g., large lectures, tutorials,
- The balance of subjects across your course and within each teaching block
- Method of assessment
You will only be permitted to change your unit choices should there be an irresolvable timetable clash. Please do not approach unit directors, all queries should be directed to sml-options-form@bristol.ac.uk.
It is important to remember that unforeseen changes may still need to be made for any number of reasons, including staff maternity or sick leave. Where changes are significant, students will be notified and informed of alternative choices.
To find out more about each of the units, please enter the unit code into the Unit Catalogue search function.
