We conduct high quality research within a number of themes relating to primary care and general practice and we provide teaching throughout the medical undergraduate curriculum. We are one of the five founding members of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School of Primary Care Research.
The Centre for Academic Primary Care is a multidisciplinary group, including academic health professionals, namely GPs and nurses, as well as health service researchers from a variety of backgrounds and administrative support staff.
We have strong links with general practices in Bristol and the surrounding area, and also contribute to primary health care through involvement with the local primary care trusts. Nationally we work with research organisations, professional bodies and funding bodies. All of our efforts are designed to benefit patients and develop NHS primary care research capacity. We have a strong history of success in training academics through externally funded fellowships.
