Research summary

My research is in evidence synthesis methodology, particularly within a Bayesian statistical framework. I currently hold an MRC Career Development Award in Biostatistics, in which I’m investigating methods for evidence synthesis of diagnostic test accuracy measures, and how such syntheses can best inform an economic decision model. Other projects and interests within this broader field include the development of ‘multi-parameter’ evidence synthesis models to estimate problem drug use prevalence, and methods for quantifying and adjusting for biases in meta-analyses of clinical trials.

Following a BSc in maths with linguistics (York) and a masters in statistics (Cambridge), I studied for my PhD at the MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge, under the supervision of Professor David Spiegelhalter. My thesis title was "Modelling longitudinal performance indicators and identifying 'unusual' performance'". I moved to Bristol to take up a position in the School of Social and Community Medicine in October 2009.
