Course aims and objectives

This two day course is essential for all individuals who may be undertaking health research.

Course outline

By the end of the course students should have acquired:

• An understanding of all aspects of research governance and knowledge of the processes involved;
• Knowledge of your research governance responsibilities;
• The skills to think through the ethical issues that might arise in your research;
• The knowledge and skills to provide research participants with the information that they need to make an informed decision about consent to participate in your research study.

Who the course is intended for

Individuals who may be undertaking health research. No prior knowledge is required but past experience is valuable.

Teaching time

The course is taught using short 30 minute lectures as well as practical sessions to get hands on experience. Tutors include experienced academic researchers as well as NHS staff involved with research governance issues.
