Joining Our Gym

Getting Started

Once you have joined (how to join) you will need a Gym Induction. No matter how much experience you have in a gym environment you will be required to take part.

What is an induction?

Inductions are provided by professional staff and are given to ensure you use the equipment safely. The induction is a short group session covering the basic principles of fitness training along with the correct techniques to be used when using a selection of the more difficult to use machines.

Why do we have inductions?

1.   An induction is the minimum health and safety requirement laid down by the Fitness Industry Association to ensure safe usage of exercise machines and sports equipment.

2.   An induction or introduction to exercise machines is required before use of equipment at all British Universities and most gyms in other sectors.

3.   The induction is a chance for you to meet the staff and find out what services they offer to help with your training.

4.   At the induction you will be made aware of the rules and regulations of the gym area, refer to the membership terms and conditions for more information..

 When are the inductions?

The inductions run daily at varying times.

Please be aware between the months of September and November we are very busy with inductions, so please book early to avoid any disappointment.

How long will it take?

The induction will take approximately 30-40 minutes. This depends on the training experience of the group.

How do I book an induction?

Once you have submitted your application form and paid for your membership, you can organise your induction with the Pulse gym staff on the 1st floor of the indoor sports centre at the gym reception desk.

Attending your induction?

The induction will start promptly at the time you have chosen to come in. You must arrive at the Pulse gym desk AT LEAST 5 minutes before the induction time (already in your gym kit) to fill out a health questionnaire. If you arrive later than this you will have to pay £3 and rebook your induction for another time.

What should I wear?

Please wear appropriate clothing i.e trainers, t-shirt, jogging bottoms. If you arrive in clothing that is not appropriate you will be asked to rebook your induction for another time.
