Sport, Exercise and Health and the student campaigning society, Bristol University Sustainability Team (BUST), joined forces to organise a regular, monthly farmers’ market that takes place on the second Tuesday of the month from 11am to 3pm outside Sport, Exercise and Health on Tyndall Avenue.
In accordance with the University’s healthy lifestyle and sustainability agendas, the initiative aims to encourage staff and students to eat well by choosing fresh, seasonal food and to think about where their food comes from – shopping locally to support local businesses and minimise the environmental impact of their purchases. We’re always looking at ways to promote positive health messages to staff and students and the University of Bristol farmers’ market is a great way of putting the “healthy university” concept into practice.
The market is open to staff, students and members of the public and will host a range of traders selling everything from fruit and vegetables, meats, preserves, cakes, olives and freshly cut flowers. We have, and will continue to expand the number and type of traders as the market becomes established.
So put the dates in your diary and take time away from your work and studies to wander around the market stocking up on fresh seasonal food and tasty treats.
