It is important that you read and understand the terms and conditions that will apply before purchasing the Sport & Activity Pass as it is a condition of your membership that you are in agreement to abide by these terms and conditions, otherwise membership may be withdrawn.
‘Contract’: the contract between the Member and the University relating to the Member’s use of the Sports Facilities.
‘Member’: A user who has paid a fee entitling him or her to use some or all of the Sports Facilities and third party facilities plus services provided therein.
‘Rules’: the terms and conditions that apply to the use of the Sports Facilities as set out below.
‘Sports Facilities’: the PULSE’ Health and Fitness Suite, Studios, Sports Hall, Squash Courts, Swimming Pool, Boathouse, Playing Fields.
‘University’: University of Bristol, Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health, Tyndall Avenue, Bristol, BS8 1TP.
2.1 The Sport Facilities and services will be made available to the Member during the term time and into the vacation. The sport facilities are available to Members until the 30th September, this excludes the final year when it is the 31st July, when the student card expires.
2.2 The membership scheme will operate during term time and into the vacation. The membership scheme is valid until the 30th September, this excludes the final year when it is 31st July and the student card expires.
2.3 The University may correct any typographical or other errors or omissions in any brochure, promotional literature and documentation relating to the Sport Facilities which does not materially affect the Member’s Contract.
2.4 The University reserves the right to withdraw all or part of its Sport Facilities or any other facilities for any periods where it requires them in connection with repair, alteration of or maintenance work. Refunds will not be applicable under these conditions.
2.5 The University may at any time, without notifying the Member, make any changes to the Sports Facilities and services which are necessary to comply with Health and Safety regulations which in the reasonable opinion of the University are necessary to protect the interests of the University and its Members.
2.6 The Members shall at all times comply with the Rules.
University of Bristol (Student Ucard required).
There are two types of membership, Peak and Off-Peak
4.1 Peak membership allow access to all facilities and exercise to music classes during operational hours. Monday - Friday (07.00 a.m. - 10.00 p.m.). Saturdays (8.00 a.m. - 8.00 p.m.) and Sundays (8.00 a.m. - 10.00 p.m.).
4.2 Off-Peak membership allows access to all facilities and exercise to music classes at restricted times. Monday - Friday (07.00 a.m. - 3.30 p.m.) Saturdays (8.00 a.m. - 8.00 p.m.) and Sundays (08.00 a.m. - 10.00 p.m.). Off-Peak members must comply to using the facilities during the restricted hours during weekdays. Misuse of cards may result in membership being cancelled with no refund.
4.3 Students joining a FOCUS Sport Club are required to purchase a Peak membership package.
4.4 Students joining a University of Bristol Students' Union club (UBU) who use the facilities for training or matches, are required to purchase a Peak or Off-Peak membership, dependent on times of training. Students will not be permitted to train or attend matches unless a member.
4.5 The Sport and Activity pass is valid until 30th September unless in the final year when it is the 31st July when the Student Ucard becomes deactivated.
4.6 Students who elect to purchase a Sport and Activity pass in the final year, despite date purchased is only valid until the 31st July when the Student Ucard becomes deactivated.
5.1 The Member shall pay the Sport and Activity Pass membership fees in advance for the use of the Sports Facilities. The Member shall in addition to payment for membership fees pay from time to time such charges as specified in the Rules.
5.2 All gym and free weight users must complete a gym induction prior to using the gym or free weights room.
5.3 There is an additional membership fee on top of Sport and Activity Pass for joining a University of Bristol Student Union (UBU) Sports Club. Additional terms and conditions may apply.
All Members making use of the Sport Facilities and third party hired facilities and the services provided are required to comply with the following terms and conditions of use.
6.1 All Sport and Activity Pass members are required to report to reception on arrival. Membership cards must be shown on entry. All student Ucards will be allocated during the University registration process. Or be prepared to present their Ucard when using the facilities at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex (playing fields/tennis courts) and Squash courts when asked.
6.2 All users of the Sports Facilities must belong to the membership scheme. This includes UBU members.
6.3 Changing rooms and showers at the Sports Facilities are only available to Members.
6.4 Members must comply with conditions of use displayed throughout the centres relevant to each activity undertaken.
6.5 Sport and Activity passes are strictly non-transferable; misuse of cards may result in membership being cancelled with no refund.
6.6 Members must use all equipment and facilities in an appropriate manner and give due regard to their own health and safety and to that of others.
6.7 Most activities require prior booking to guarantee availability. A booking receipt will be required from Reception for all exercise classes and must be handed to the appropriate instructor. No receipt - no entry.
6.8 Tickets are available 7 days in advance. Tickets for classes will not be obtainable 20 minutes before the class starts.
6.9 Members attending exercise to music classes are required to arrive 10 minutes early to allow for delays at reception. The cut off point of sale of tickets is 5 minutes prior to the class start times. Instructors will deny admission to a class once it has started.
6.10 Tickets are obtained on a first come first service basis and may not be purchased on behalf of others. Misuse of cards may result in membership being cancelled with no refund
6.11 One guest (non-member) is permitted on this membership for a £5.00 admission fee to use the Squash Courts and the Sports hall during off-peak times only 07.00 a.m. – 3.30 p.m. (excludes Wednesday afternoons 12.30 p.m. – 3.30 p.m. during the Autumn and Spring term - reserved to BUCS sport). Guests are not permitted to use the ‘PULSE’ Health and Fitness Suite.
6.12 Members at all times must accept responsibility for their guests using the facilities and shall procure that their guests shall comply with the Rules. Guests must sign in at reception before play. Other terms and conditions may apply at the pool and the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex. Please refer to the relevant web pages for further information.
7.1 All Members are required to use the lockers where provided. The University does not accept responsibility or liability for any damage to or loss of any property or articles or things whatsoever placed or left by the Member or any other user, except where the damage or loss is due to the negligence of the University.
7.2 Any articles handed in or found will be placed in lost property for one month and thereafter will be disposed of or given to a charity.
8.1 Members in doubt about their ability to participate in physical exercise due to a pre-existing medical condition should seek medical advice before doing so.
8.2 All customers must inform staff of any medical condition which may affect their use of the facilities by informing the class/gym instructors before participation.
8.3 Use of the facilities and all sports equipment and amenities thereof is undertaken entirely at the Members’ own risk and Members must satisfy themselves that they have taken reasonable precautions.
8.4 The University will not be liable for any losses suffered or personal injury occasioned to any user, except where such losses or injury are directly attributable to the negligence of the University.
9.1 Smoking is prohibited in all the Sports Facilities, including and in and around the artificial pitches.
9.2 Sports and Grounds Department Staff reserve the right to require any Member or other user to leave the sports areas or any sports premises or their environs, to refuse access, and suspend or terminate membership if the Member or other user behaves in an aggressive or harassing manner towards staff or other users. No refunds will be given in this instance.
9.3 Members and other users must refrain from any conduct which is offensive, unseemly or unsporting or which might cause annoyance or danger to other users or centre staff. No refunds will be given in this instance.
9.4 Some sports facilities, for example the swimming pool and the playing fields, will have additional local rules specifying or prohibiting certain forms of behaviour. All Members and other users must comply with these rules.
9.5 No food, glass bottle or chewing gum is to be brought into any playing area.
10.1 Members should not travel to the Sports Facilities in shoes intended for play. Members are requested to wear the appropriate clean sports clothing, wear clean trainers (boots – playing fields) and bring a towel when using the gym. Sports Centre staff may prevent users from using the facilities or taking part in any activity if the Member fails to comply with these rules.
10.2 Members using the sports hall are required to wear white soled training shoes only
11.1 In the event of a fire or emergency evacuation an alarm will sound and Members are required to leave the premises immediately using the nearest available exit to a designated area and to follow the directions of the staff on duty at that time. Membership may be suspended or terminated if Members do not comply.
12.1 Members booking any sport in the Sports Hall and then failing to attend will be charged a £3 fine on the next visit. Similarly, Members who book a team game which subsequently has fewer than six players in attendance will be charged £3.00.
12.2 Indoor Sports Centre – Members can book up to seven days in advance in person at reception. Members will be required to pay £3.00 if less than 24 hours notice of cancellation is given.
12.3 Members are not permitted to book back to back bookings for the sports hall or squash courts during term time.
12.4 Tennis Centre – Members can book up to eight days in advance in person or over the phone. Members are required to pay for the full hire charge if less than 48 hours notice of cancellation is given.
13.1 Students who purchase a sport pass in the first year of their programme will have up until the 13th October 2013 to cancel their membership. After this date, despite the date of purchase no refunds will be considered, unless you leave the University or if you have a serious illness that prevents you from using the facilities (a doctor's certificate will be required) stating clearly why you are prohibited from using the facilities. A £10.00 administration fee will apply.
The University student Ucard may be replaced at the Security Lodge, Royal Fort Gardens, Tyndall Avenue. A fee may be charged for a replacement.
