Men's Lacrosse first team remain unbeaten this season

13 February 2017

It's fair to say that the men's 1st Lacrosse team have had a fantastic year, winning the Southern Premiership and remaining unbeaten in the season. We had a chat with team captain Harry Rintoul about bouncing back after a few challenging years, what contributed to this winning formula, and where they're setting their sights on next...

"The last few seasons for the Lacrosse club have been a series of near misses and we have narrowly lost out on the title on multiple occasions; finishing in second place more than any other team. This year it was clear from pre-season that the talent we had in the squad meant we could mount a serious challenge for the Premiership. Training improvements, strength and conditioning coaching, sports psychology, nutritional advice, video analysis and additional coaching staff all helped to contribute to a much more professional feel to the club, and this meant we really capitalised on the talent in the team.

We kicked off the season with a strong start and after a 12-5 victory against second-placed Exeter University in November, it was clear that the title win was a serious prospect. We managed to maintain this momentum into the second half of the season and by Christmas we were still unbeaten. The boys all worked really hard over Christmas to keep their conditioning and skills up and after another preseason week in January we went down to Exeter for our final game where we won 11-7 in a very well contested match. It is the first time we have ever won the league and we are the first team in quite a few years to do it undefeated. We are really looking forward to a run in the BUCS Cup where we will play Manchester in the quarter finals on the 1st of March at Coombe Dingle".

Best of luck to Harry and the team, and we hope to see many of you up at Coombe Dingle on 1st March!
