The Women's 1st Fencing Team have become a force to be reckoned with this year, and so we decided to catch up with the new team captain Justine Lambert to celebrate their unbroken run of success.

"This year I have had the pleasure of being captain of the University of Bristol Women’s 1st Fencing Team. Despite it only being the start of Term 2, we have already had a number of considerable successes. We have been featured as BUCS Star Team of the fortnight by the Epigram in October, are currently in the top 16 of the Southern 1A BUCS Trophy tableau, and most notably, have won BUCS Western 1A league with 6/6 victories.

We started the season with a comfortable 132-109 win against the University of Southampton Women’s 1st Team. However, as the term progressed we came together as a team and our victories became more and more resounding. This resulted in our record-breaking 135-37 win against Swansea University Women’s 1sts. Our final, and hardest match of the season, was against the University of Exeter Women’s 1sts. Despite the match being straight after the holidays, and not on home turf, we excelled under the pressure and emerged with our final league victory, winning 120-115.

All six members of the Women’s First Team have put in hours of dedicated training in this year, and this is clearly highlighted in the excellent fencing seen on match days. A special mention must go to the newest members of the team, Ellie Wigham and Ellen Bradley, for fitting straight in and for performing well both on and off the piste.

Our sights are set on winning the BUCS Southern 1A trophy and also being promoted to the Southern Premiership".

Good luck to Justine and all the girls on the team, we're sure you'll bring that trophy home!
