Staff Handbook 2008 - 2009

This Staff Handbook has been produced in response to requests from University staff with management and supervisory responsibilities.

The intention is to publish a new version of the Handbook as a web publication each autumn. We have decided not to produce a hard copy this year. To help make sure it is up to date and of real value, please report inaccuracies to Claire Toogood (0117 921 7548, claire.toogood@bristol.ac.uk). General comments on the format, layout and so forth would also be welcome.  If feedback indicates that a hard copy is still needed, we can of course consider that for next year.

This Handbook is one of a set of four publications produced each year to support the governance, management and operation of the University. The others are:

• Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations and Official Record
  The official guide to University officers, staff, charter, statutes, ordinances and academic regulations.
• Student Rules and Regulations
  Everything that undergraduates, postgraduates, their teachers and supervisors need to know about what is expected of students and how problems should be dealt with.
• Council Guide
  A close look at the University's governing body.
• The Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations and Official Record, Staff Handbook and Council Guide are produced by Planning, Policy and Project Support. Planning, Policy and Project Support Office.

The Rules and Regulations for Students are maintained by the Office of the University Secretary, but key regulations are reproduced each year in the Student Handbook produced by the Academic Registry (petra.armitage-smith@bristol.ac.uk, telephone (0117) 33 17063).  The Student Handbook is issued to all new students at registration, and reference copies are distributed to all departments.
