Investment Group

We are a group of people who invest and manage a small portfolio of shares from monthly contributions. We meet monthly to discuss the holdings, suggest new investments, sell existing shares and generally learn about investing from each other whilst enjoying a modest capital gain. If you are interested in the stock market but don’t want to pay expensive brokerage fees, this is a great way to learn the ropes and meet like-minded people.

Our Portfolio

Our portfolio consists of around 20 shares, spread across most of the major share classes. There is a preference for blue-chip shares and also a slight tendency for reliable dividend-paying stocks but we like to keep it interesting with some high-risk stocks and some gold for good measure. We create units whose value are determined by the total assets of the Club. Members pay monthly subscriptions, which are used to buy units at the current price. Each member’s share of the Club assets is represented by the number of units they own. The treasurer produces a monthly and annual report of trading, performance and each member’s shares.

All club members pay a monthly subscription of £50. New members pay an initial investment of £200 in addition to their first monthly payment. We do not charge commission or brokerage when new members join.

Members may withdraw some or all of their investment at any time but there is a 0.25% brokerage charge.

No guarantees

The club has enjoyed a modest but reasonable capital gain over the years but there are no guarantees in the stock market. Please remember that the value of your investment can go down as well as up!

The Group meets on the second Monday of each month from 5.15 - 6.45pm.

Eligibility to join: Open to everyone who is eligible to use the Staff Club facilities. New members welcome.
