The Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of staff within Professional Services (which includes administration, operational and technical support staff). Leadership and Management Short Courses

Successful Recruitment & Selection
Date: 8th November, 14th November
Time: 09.30-13.00 or 12.30-16.00 (please see Oncourse)
Recruitment and selection training is mandatory for all staff involved in any interview or selection process, and is a key element in any hiring manager’s “tool kit”. The Successful Recruitment and Selection training course will give you the necessary knowledge and confidence to run effective recruitment campaigns on behalf of the University, and greatly improve the likelihood of you recruiting the right person for your team.

Managing Successful Projects
Date: 5th October and 17th October (two day course)
Time: 09.30-16.30
This workshop is aimed at leaders and managers who want to gain an understanding of project tools and stages, and have a live project to apply the tools to. This course will assume some knowledge of the project life-cycle and will utilise the standard University project documentation templates. Please come prepared to discuss a project you are currently involved in.

Mentoring at Bristol - an introduction
Date: 6th October
Time: 13.30-16.30
This course is open to any member of staff who plans to become a mentor. According to David Clutterbuck, a global authority on mentoring, "A mentor is an individual who is willing to help someone less experienced gain confidence, clearer purpose, insight and wisdom". This short workshop is designed to give you an introduction to developmental mentoring at Bristol and equip you with some of the skills and techniques that will help you develop positive mentoring relationships.

Bristol Senior Leaders 2016-17 programme now open for applications

Expressions of interest are now being taken for the Bristol Senior Leaders development programme for 2016-17. The programme is aimed at both professional services and academic staff at grades L & M in a variety of senior roles who wish to further develop their leadership capabilities. You can find full details about the programme content and the application process here. Completed applications must be received by Friday 30th September.

Professional Skills Development Workshops

Please find below dates for our professional skills development workshops for all Professional Services staff. Before booking onto a course, please read through our terms and conditions.

Women's Self Defence Level 2
Date: 27th September
Time: 10:30-12:00
Award-winning personal safety workshop designed to empower you in your pursuit to overcome a perceived harmful event, attack or threat to survival. Please visit the website to book your place. Level 2 includes an overview of Level 1, new ground manoeuvres and how to cope with physical attacks, with a focus on high-impact scenarios.

Mastering Minutes
Date: 29th September and 29th November
Time:13.00-16.00 or 09.00-12.00 (please see Oncourse)
This workshop will focus on the basics of effective minute taking, using guidance, templates and practice exercises to help you improve your minute taking skills. The aim of the workshop is to help participants to take and write better minutes of meetings.

Collaborative working
Date:25th October
This workshop focuses on how we can manage relationships in a positive way by looking at collaborative thinking and action in relation to our communication skills, approaches to problem solving, and how we make decisions. We have couple of spaces left for this workshop date.

University opportunities

Audio Visual Training Workshops

The Learning Facilities Management team will be running a number of Audio Visual Training workshops over September. The workshops are designed for academic and support staff who use ‘teaching spaces’ here at the University. It is intended to enable users to become self-sufficient when using these areas and how to secure appropriate support when necessary. Each session will last approximately one hour, followed by an extra hour if people would like to stay to go over anything or ask questions.

IT services provide a range of learning opportunities to help you develop the IT skills that you need for doing your job, research or study.

University Talk

A University of Bristol alumni and honorary graduate, author and screenwriter Dr David Nicholls returns to the city to talk about his work, alongside a selection of his own favourite films for the Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival.
