Student support

The University provides a comprehensive range of services to support our students. Even prior to joining the University, you can obtain advice about accommodation options from the Accommodation Office and advice about potential sources of financial support from the Student Funding Office.

Pre-course preparation

Students enrolled on our M.Sc programme will have an individual pastoral tutor for help in addition to the many lecturers and course organisers.

Applicants who are just below the language entry requirements may consider one of the pre-sessional courses offered at the University of Bristol. There is a 10-week course for students with no less than IELTS 5.5 and a 5-week course for students with no less than IELTS 6.0. These courses are designed to develop the academic English language skills needed for higher education study at a British university. These courses are provided by Bristol University’s Language Centre.

Once you have registered for the course, you will receive a pre-registration pack including CD-ROM and access to pre-course material on the course website.

The information services provide a comprehensive range of journals available electronically. During the first weeks of the M.Sc. you will learn how to access the electronic library resources with a web browser using the authenticated proxy service.

The University provides extensive email support options including web based email (or if you prefer forwarding to an email address of your choice) and a service to transfer files too large to deliver by email.
