Social Work Bursaries

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) provides bursaries for degree or diploma courses in social work.

Undergraduates

Undergraduate students in England can receive £2,500 and £500 for travel to work experience, per year. Or if living in the parental home, £2,100 and £500 for travel to work experience.

The GSCC will also pay the full amount of any tuition fees that is not covered by a student's Local Education Authority (LEA).

Postgraduates

Postgraduate students in England can receive £2,500 and £862.50 for travel to work experience, per year. Or if living in the parental home, £2,100 and £862.50 for travel to work experience. This award is means-tested on parents' or husband's or wife's income. Students may be eligible for a means-tested low-income allowance on top of the bursary.

The GSCC will also pay £3,390 (in 09/10) towards the tuition fees.
