Key application dates

2013/14 academic year

The application cycle for the 2013/14 academic year for new and continuing students is now open, however the applications deadlines have now passed. Any applications submitted after the advised deadlines may mean that you do not receive your Student Finance support until much later in the 2013/14 academic year.  For more details depending on where you live in the UK, please see below.

Student Finance England (SFE)

New and continuing students can apply to Student Finance England via the Directgov website.

New students

Guidance on the application process can be found on the Student Finance England website. You can also download their leaflet How to Apply (PDF, 368kB) and a guide to How You are Assessed and Paid (PDF, 601kB). Deadline for applications: 31st May 2013.

Continuing Students

Continuing students who already have a Student Finance account, need to log in to their account to update their details and apply for their next year's funding. If the funding you are applying for in 2013/14 is different to the funding you applied for in 2012/13 you will need to inform Student Finance England. The deadline for continuing students to apply is 28th June 2013.

Student Finance Wales (SFW)

New Students

The deadline for students applying to Student Finance Wales for the first time in 2013/14 is 19th April 2013. See the Student Finance Wales website for more details.

SFW also produce a guide, available to download, on the Financial Support available in 2013/14 (PDF, 397kB).

Continuing Students

The deadline for continuing students to submit applications for  financial support in 2013/14 is 31st May 2013. Continuing students can login to their SFW account via the Student Finance Wales website.

Student Finance N. Ireland (SFNI)

New Students

The deadline for students applying to Student Finance Northern Ireland for the first time is 12th April 2013. See the Student Finance Northern Ireland website for more details.

Continuing Students

The deadline for continuing students to submit applications for  financial support in 2013/14 is 14th June 2013. Continuing students can log in to their SFNI account on the Student Finance Northern Ireland website.

Disabled Students

Disabled Student's Allowance

New and continuing students applying for Disabled Student Allowances should submit their applications for student finance to the standard deadlines for each regional Student Finance provider.

There is no deadline for applications for DSA however you are advised to apply early in order to have your DSA support in place for the start of term. The application, assessment and eligibility notification process can take 14 weeks.

Further information specific to each regional provider follows below.

Student Finance England (SFE)

Once you start your application for student finance you can click on the option to apply for Disabled Students' Allowance on your main application. This will trigger a shortened version of the DSA application form to be sent to you to fill out and return to Student Finance England.

Students who are only applying for DSA support (not applying to Student Finance England) can complete the full DSA1F application form, which is available on the Directgov website. Once completed, return this form to Student Finance England.

Student Finance Wales (SFW)

Students who have started their application to Student Finance Wales can confirm on the form whether they want to apply for DSA. A DSA1 form will then be sent to you by your Local Authority. Complete and return this form to your Local Authority.

Students who have already submitted their applications to Student Finance Wales can download a shortened version of the  DSA1 form ('Slimform') and guidance from the Student Finance Wales website.

Students who are only applying for DSA support (not applying to Student Finance Wales) should download and complete the Full DSA1 form (2013/14).

Student Finance N. Ireland (SFNI)

Students should make contact with their DSA office at their Education and Library Board who will assess their eligibility and advise on the application process.
