Prospective students part-time study

The financial support arrangements provided by the University of Bristol for students on part-time programmes are yet to be finalised.

Statutory support

Students starting their first year of their first degree course in September 2013 are eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan of up to £6,750 providing they are studying 25% or more of the full-time equivalent course. This is measured by the number or part-time units (e.g. credit points) they are studying. The following calculation can be used:

Part-time Units ÷ Full-time Units x 100 = Part-time %

The part time tuition fee loan is not based on household income, and will be repayable from the April after a student leaves or finishes their course and is earning over £21,0000.

Living expenses

Part-time students are not eligible for maintenance loans or grants for living expenses in 2013/14.

How and when to apply for support from the Student Loans Company

All part-time students have to apply for financial support for every year of the course. Details of how to apply will be outlined in the websites provided above. The Student Room is another useful source of information for part-time students.

Access to Learning Funds

In previous academic years the University has been able to assist Home UK students who find themselves in financial difficulty with financial support from the Government's Access to Learning Fund (ALF). The Government has yet to announce it's intention with the fund for the 2013/14 academic year. We will provide further details once the Government has finalised the details for this fund.
