Welcome week events

Welcome Week is a programme of events organised by the University, the Students' Union and if you're in University accommodation, your Junior Common Room.

These events will welcome you, introduce you to postgraduate life and help you make new friends. There's something for everyone so you'll have no trouble finding something to do.

Academic introduction

You will be formally welcomed to the University. The events will also introduce you to your academic department, the academic staff you will be working with and your fellow postgraduate students.

Welcome ceremony

Postgraduate taught students

All postgraduate taught students are invited to attend a celebratory ceremony to begin their studies with us and join the academic community here.

The ceremony will include a welcome from senior academics and Bristol SU Sabbatical Officers in the Great Hall of the Wills Memorial Building.

Details of the time and date for your ceremony are in your Welcome Week timetable. You should arrive at the time outlined in your timetable so you can be seated before the ceremony starts, as late arrivals may not be admitted.

There is no formal dress code for the ceremony.

Postgraduate research students

All postgraduate research students are invited to attend the Researcher inauguration welcome event on 9 November in the Great Hall of the Wills Memorial Building. You will be emailed an invite to the event with a link for ticket sign ups.

This event is a celebration of the work of our community of researchers and an opportunity for you to find out about the opportunities available throughout your time here.

You will be welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor and hear from current researchers. There will be a drinks reception and you'll meet other researchers from across the disciplines.
