International students: After you arrive

Find out about the help and support available when you arrive at Bristol and how to get involved with University life.

The Welcome Lounge

The Welcome Lounge is located in the Richmond Building on the 4th floor.

It is an informal place where you can

  • meet other new students and make friends;
  • meet Student Ambassadors who can answer any questions about starting university;
  • get a bank letter so you can open a UK bank account;
  • book a campus tour;
  • find out about transport, accommodation, Students’ Union (SU) activities.

You do not need to book an appointment, just come along during opening hours.

Trips and tours

You can also attend a range of trips, tours and events. You'll be able to create memories and make new friends while exploring the UK and Europe.

Students' Union

Bristol SU is run by students for all students and is central to your University experience. The SU can support all aspects of your student life and offers lots of different opportunities. You can continue a hobby or develop a new passion by joining a club or society. There are over 250 to choose from and they're an excellent way to make new friends and enjoy University life. 

The SU also organises volunteering opportunities and events such as comedy nights, debates, talks and more. 

International Students Network

The International Students Network is for all international students to come together through socials, campaigns, forums and more.

Welcome Week

Welcome Week is a programme for all students to introduce university life. There are events for undergraduates, events for postgraduates and events for anyone.

Police registration

Check your visa to find out if you need to register with the police. If you do need to register with the police, you must do this within 7 days after arriving. Find out about Police registration (PDF, 112kB).
