Mature and part-time students

Starting at University is an exciting time with lots of changes to get used to. You can get support from the Mature Students' and Peer Support Adviser and the Mature Student Advocates. They are here to help you settle in and make the best possible start in your studies.

You will also have support throughout your course from someone in your department, such as a personal tutor who is there to help you.

You can also request a current mature student as your peer mentor.

Welcome events

You can attend several (optional) events during the start of term to help you settle in. The Mature Student's Adviser arranges these and will email you the full details by the beginning of September.

If you have not heard by 11 September, please check your junk mail box and, if necessary, email

20 September, 10 – 11.30 am, Coffee morning

You can become familiar with the campus and meet other students before term starts. This includes the opportunity to go on a campus tour when it is quieter on campus.

24 September, Mature Student Welcome Induction

You can become familiar with the campus and meet other students. You will find out what services are available to you and what social activities there are.

Mature Student Advocates

Mature Student Advocates are current students who are available to act as peer mentors to first year students. They can help to improve the mature and part time student experience at University.

Mature student mingles

You can attend regular mingles to meet and chat about university life. This is an opportunity to take some time out of studying and have a coffee and biscuits with like-minded students. You have the opportunity to share your experiences and ask any questions you may have. The first one will be in teaching week 2. These will carry on throughout term time.

Individual Appointments

The Mature Students’ Adviser offers one to one support appointments throughout the year.
