Great Western Summer School for Medicine

About the Great Western Summer School

The summer school is run by our Health Sciences Faculty. It is a non-residential summer school that will offer successful applicants the opportunity to:

  • Learn about life as a doctor, working in a busy NHS hospital.
  • Learn more about medical careers.
  • Spend time being taught by practising doctors and working with University of Bristol medical students.
  • Visit a range of university facilities and explore more about the University of Bristol and Oxford Brookes.
  • Practise interview technique and application skills.

Summer school dates

The Great Western Summer School will take place on 19-21 July 2017.

Costs

The summer school is free to attend. The University of Bristol will cover all costs, including travel to and from the Summer School from a central pick-up point, and meals.

Eligiblity

The Great Western Summer School is open to current Year 12 students who live in London and meet the following criteria:

  • have the academic ability to study at the University of Bristol. See entry requirements for your chosen subject stream in our online course finder;
  • attend a state school or college;
  • are under the age of 18.

Where a subject stream is oversubscribed, preference will be given to those students who:

  • are part of the first generation in their family to go to university;
  • live in an area of low participation to HE as defined by POLAR 3, which is a score of 1 or 2 for the category 'young participation quintile';
  • attend a contextual school or college, appearing on the list of LPS schools;
  • are or have been eligible for free school meals;
  • have worked with Into University in the past;
  • are from an ethnic group which is under-represented at the University of Bristol (Asian Pakistani; Asian Bangladeshi; Black Caribbean; Black African; mixed backgrounds featuring one of these groups).
