Sutton Trust Summer School

The Sutton Trust Summer School offers you the opportunity to experience student life in one of the UK's most exciting cities. We have 145 places available across eleven different subject streams, designed to give you a taste of the undergraduate courses offered by the University.

Activities during the week

Each subject stream consists of lectures, seminars and debates led by our world-leading academics, with some streams including field trips to local organisations that are relevant to your academic interests.

In the afternoons you will take a break from academia to attend sessions covering careers support, how to write your personal statement and student funding. You'll visit the heart of the student community to see the famous Clifton suspension bridge and explore the cafes and shops of Clifton Village.

We also offer you the chance to try out a variety of sports and union activities, so you might have a go at Ultimate Frisbee, play a friendly game of football, learn how to draw, relax in a Pilates class, engage in a debating session and more!

In the evening you'll experience what life is like in our halls of residence. Activities include a team challenge, karaoke, quiz night, bowling, and a formal meal and celebratory disco to close the week.

Accommodation and cost

The summer school is free of charge to all participants as places are jointly funded by the University of Bristol and the Sutton Trust. This includes all meals, accommodation and travel.

Accommodation is provided in one of our catered halls of residence, in your own study bedroom in a single-sex block with shared bathroom facilities. There'll be a team of student mentors on hand to answer your questions throughout the week.

One of the major benefits of taking part in the Sutton Trust Summer School at Bristol is the guaranteed interview or guaranteed offer to the University. These guarantees are awarded to students who both complete the summer school and meet the entry requirements for the course they apply for. These guarantees highlight how much the University values the skills and experiences students gain during the week.
