Our International Foundation Programme (IFP) develops your academic English and prepares you for undergraduate study. On the International Foundation Programme you will have classes in academic language and study skills. Your choice of subject-specific units will depend on the degree you wish to progress to.

What kind of student would this course suit?
The programme helps students improve their English language and academic study skills before progressing to an undergraduate degree.
We are looking for students who will be successful on the International Foundation Programme. We also want you to do well on your undergraduate degree. To ensure this, we look at your high school grades and existing English language skills.
These programmes are not suitable for students who have taken A-levels or the International Baccalaureate.

How is this course taught and assessed?
As a student studying on the International Foundation Programme, you can expect approximately 20 hours per week of supervised work. This will be in the form of lectures, tutorials and classes. Students studying on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics pathway will also have practical and laboratory sessions.
Our programmes are assessed in a number of ways, including through coursework and final exams in subject units and English units. Students on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics pathway will also have practical assessments.

Studying on our International Foundation Programme guarantees you a conditional offer from the University of Bristol. When you complete the programme, you can progress to an agreed degree relevant to your previous studies. Our qualification is also recognised by other UK universities.
