About Dip Dental Hygiene
This full-time, 21-month course enables you to become a skilled clinician with a registrable qualification. The Diploma in Dental Hygiene is awarded by the University of Bristol and registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).
Pre-clinical training starts in term one in a dedicated clinical skills teaching laboratory. This prepares you for seeing your first patient at the beginning of the second term. You will gain clinical experience at the Bristol Dental Hospital and the new South Bristol Community Hospital, where you will work alongside dentistry undergraduates and dental therapy students.
Certain health conditions may be incompatible with studying dental hygiene. You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire and visit our occupational health department before starting the course. Blood screening and inoculations may be recommended before you can start clinical work. Health status is essential to protect both the clinical operator and his or her patients.
Working with the general public demands a commitment to exemplary personal and professional conduct. In accordance with General Dental Council guidelines on fitness to practise, students must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced check and register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA). For further information on DBS disclosure, please visit our DBS web page.
