Study and work abroad

Each year more than 600 Bristol students go abroad to destinations ranging from Barcelona to Copenhagen and California to Singapore. Graduates with cross-cultural experiences are increasingly sought after by employers, many of whom recognise and value the skills gained living abroad.

Study abroad

The University has over 150 exchange links with outstanding universities around the world such as Sciences Po Paris, the University of California and the University of Hong Kong. There are plenty of opportunities to study at English-speaking universities as well as those requiring a language.

Look out for courses that include 'with Study in Continental Europe' or 'with Study Abroad' in the title, or speak to the academic department you are interested in about the opportunities they offer.

Work abroad

If you study modern languages, you will also have the option of undertaking a work placement in Continental Europe, Latin America or Russia - a great way to enhance your CV.

The excellent career prospects these opportunities provide are demonstrated by the popularity of these placements. Last year, students participated in almost 300 work placements for companies such as Christie's in France, Deloitte in Germany and the Coca Cola Group in Spain.

All students on study or work placements pay no tuition fees to their host institution.  In addition, students on Latin American placements are eligible to receive a grant from Santander bank to help with travel and living costs.

You can find more information about where you can work and study abroad at Global Opportunities for current students.

My year studying in Granada was unforgettable. I've made lifelong friends, experienced a completely different, exciting culture and been able to learn a new language. For me, it was invaluable.
