Theatre Collection Copying Service and Picture Library Advice and Charges

The University of Bristol Theatre Collection is able to provide copies of items in the collection, however, please note that some items may be deemed too fragile to reproduce and the Theatre Collection reserves the right to make this judgement.

Commercial Rights Fees
For all commercial enquiries (including images required for publications, exhibitions and performances) please contact ArenaPAL at enquiries@arenapal.com.

Non-Commercial Enquiries
(i.e. personal research/reference)

Copies made must be for research use only and may not be used for reproduction or commercial purposes, without the prior agreement and acknowledgement of the copyright holder(s) and the University of Bristol Theatre Collection. You will be asked to complete a form to agree with these conditions.

For enquiries received from researchers who are unable to visit the Theatre Collection, we can offer paper or electronic copies of images. The charges for this will be £3 for the first scan and 50p for each additional scan, plus £1.50 for postage for paper copies.

Please note: for enquiries received by letter or email, it is not Theatre Collection policy to charge for the initial maximum search period of 15 minutes. However, if a more extensive search is necessary, there may be an additional charge of £25. The enquirer will be informed prior to any additional searches and charges being made.

UOB staff and students will not be asked to pay any copying charges but will be asked to complete our copyright permission form for any images taken of materials.

Photography
Photography (no flash) is allowed at the discretion of the staff. Photographs taken must be for personal research use only and may not be used for reproduction or commercial purposes without the prior agreement and acknowledgement of the copyright holder(s) and the University of Bristol Theatre Collection. You will be asked to complete a form to agree with these conditions. Non-UOB researchers using their own camera phones/digital cameras to take images for their own personal research use will be asked to pay £3 as a flat rate daily charge, in addition to completing the necessary copyright permission forms.

Photocopying
Please note that to ensure the preservation of archival items, the photocopying of archival materials is discouraged. We can however offer black and white printed copies of scanned material (see below).

Scanning
Subject to availability, non-UOB researchers may use the scanning facility at the Theatre Collection to produce electronic copies (included in the £3 charge). Please note that researchers will need to ask a member of staff for a licence to use the computer/scanner (available on the day). Copies of the images scanned will also be backed-up to the Theatre Collection’s image bank.
If Non-UOB researchers would prefer a member of the TC staff to undertake the scanning for them, then they will be charged at £3 for the first scan and 50p per additional scan. Should the scanning process involve more than 15 minutes of staff time, then an extra £25 will be charged in addition to the cost of the scans. Please state the dpi required when requesting scans.

Postage
Postage of paper images will be charged at £1.50.

Audio Visual Material
PLEASE NOTE - Moving Image material will only be supplied if ALL relevant copyright clearances and consents have already been obtained, and evidence of this is provided in writing to the Theatre Collection. Material will be charged at the rate of £25 per hour's copying time for personal/research use, and £50 hour's copying time for commercial use. A minimum one hour charge applies.

Copyright
The University of Bristol Theatre Collection does not hold copyright for all of its holdings and therefore it is the responsibility of the researcher to ensure that copyright is cleared, prior to any material being published. The University of Bristol takes no responsibility for copyright concerning third parties.
