Old/Expired Parking Policy: Applying for a Car Parking Permit

The University has five types of parking permits; A1, A2, B, C and Departmental A.  For each permit you must apply by completing the relevant application form (as below) to ensure you meet the criteria for each category.

A1 - Car Share

Guaranteed parking spaces are only available to car share teams with two or more members of salaried University staff.  More information on Car Sharing and to find a car share companion

  • Parking spaces are available to members of staff that live at a distance of more than two miles from the University.
  • Staff must work more than three days a week (minimum 22 hours a week)
  • Car share teams must have a minimum of two members.
  • Car share teams will have an allocated parking space.

A2 - Disability

  • Must provide medical evidence supporting disability.
  • Evidence is submitted to Occupational Health for assessment and advice of longevity of permit.
  • Blue Badge holders automatically qualify.
  • Individual spaces are allocated as close to place of work as possible.
  • No charge for parking.

A - Departmental

  • Permits and spaces will be issued in relation to evidence provided explaining usage of the vehicles.
  • The space is allocated as close to the department as possible.
  • University registered vehicles do not pay a fee, all other spaces are charged on a per space basis. For the 2014/15 permit year, this is £833.
  • The application is submitted to the Travel to Work Implementation Group for a decision.
  • If departments abuse the use of the space, it can be taken away.

B - Preferential

  • Must score five or more points on application to qualify.
  • Must have caring responsibilities for children under the age of 11 or have caring responsibilities for a relative.
  • The permit may only be used with coupons that must be scratched off daily.
  • Bays are easier to find close to the precinct at peak times.
  • It is to note that the University is not able to guarantee a parking space even if a permit is issued to you. The issuing of a parking permit allows the holder to park in designated areas only if a space is available.
  • Application processing times, current staff members - 1 to 2 weeks; new staff members - 6 to 8 weeks.

C - Standard

  • Licence to hunt
  • Any salaried member of staff can apply
  • The permit may only be used with coupons that must be scratched off daily.
  • More difficult to find parking on the precinct at peak times.
  • It is to note that the University is not able to guarantee a parking space even if a permit is issued to you. The issuing of a parking permit allows the holder to park in designated areas only if a space is available.
  • Application processing times, current staff members - 1 to 2 weeks; new staff members - 6 to 8 weeks.
