Bristol's Big Communter Count results

Date: 16 October 2007

Bristol’s Big Commuter Count was undertaken on the 3rd October 2007. The University of Bristol was one of 50 companies in Bristol that registered to take part to find out how their employees travelled to work.  This is the first time a survey of this size has been organised and undertaken and the City Council.

The overall results

Overall 8796 employees completed the short survey. The results show that 20.4% of all employees walked to work and 10.6% cycled. Unfortunately 40.9% of employees travel by car (as a driver) on this particular day.

The University of Bristol results

The University of Bristol had 2266 employees complete the survey, which equates to 26% of the total participation. The graph below illustrates that 33.5% of employees walked and 11.7% cycled to work which are both above average. Although 28.2% of employees travelled to work by car (as a driver) this is still below average.  Part of the reason for this success is the development of the Staff Transport Plan and the implementation of its associated measures.
