The University regularly conducts staff travel surveys with the aim of identifying:
Methodology Statement - 2007 Change of data
Early surveys considered the most used mode of transport by each person and underrepresented modes used by part time employees. From 2007 onwards we have rectified this by gathering data from all journeys.
The table below shows the percentage splits for different modes of transport usually used by staff respondents as noted in previous travel surveys.

Historically no specific student travel surveys have been undertaken. It was therefore essential that a travel survey be undertaken in order to ascertain the difficulties students face with travel and transport to and at the University and for the development of the student travel plan.
The aims of conducting the initial travel survey were to identify:
