Members of University staff can claim a mileage allowance of 20 pence per mile, if they use their bicycle to travel on University business. Staff will need to fill in an expense claim form in the normal way, but specify that they travelled by bicycle at a rate of 20 pence per mile. The rules governing the eligibility of staff to apply for the cycle mileage allowance are the same as those for all expenses, namely that the journey must be undertaken in the course of the University's business and excludes journeys between one's home and normal place of work.
University of Bristol staff can make great savings on the cost of a new bike by taking advantage of a Government initiative aimed at increasing the number of people cycling to work. Read more about the tax benefit cycle scheme >>
