Can I get a loan to help with the cost of buying a motorcycle?

Staff can take out an interest free loan to purchase a motorbike and equipment for commuting to work. The maximum amount available is £1000 and the repayment period is 12 months.

Where can I learn how to drive a motorcycle?

There are several organisations which provide motorcycle training in Bristol. A few of these are listed below, please note that we are only signposting these training courses and  the University of Bristol does not take responsibility for the quality of these providers.

Want to learn how to become more confident driving a motorcycle?

Travelwest provides free escorted motor cycle rides are available for commuters who may be considering getting back on a motorcycle but need a refresher, or a new rider who needs a confidence boost to get them riding to work regularly. If you would like to take advantage of this service please email the University's travel team.

Where can I park my motorcycle / scooter / moped?

To park on the Precinct (main campus) use the facilities map to find motorcycle parking, you may also want to look at the parking available in the areas which are a short walk away. from the Precinct.

Can I claim mileage allowance if I travel on University Business?

University staff can claim a mileage allowance if they use their power two wheeler to travel on University business. Staff will need to fill in an expense claim form in the normal way, but specify that they travelled by motorcycle. The rules governing the eligibility of staff to apply for the motorcycle mileage allowance are the same as those for all expenses, namely that the journey must be undertaken in the course of the University's business and excludes journeys between one's home and normal place of work.

Become part of the University Motorcycle Community.

The University has a Motorcycle Users Group (MUG) which provide a voice for motorcyclists within the University to to discuss issues concerning motorcyclists within the University and suggest solutions. In addition, you will be consulted with regarding proposals for new motorbike facilities and to provide advice.
