It’s a well known fact that during the school term there is more traffic on the roads in the morning peak hour (the school run). Promoting walking, cycling, and, for longer distances, greater use of buses and car sharing for the school journey will help to relieve congested roads, improve child health, and offer greater access to a range of educational opportunities.
It’s important for those members of staff with children, where ever possible, to consider using a sustainable mode of transport for the school run and then to continue with that mode for their journey to work.
There are many ways in which parents can get actively involved with promoting sustainable travel within schools, some initiatives are listed below:
