Research Committee
The Research Committee's role is to:
- Act as the prime research planning Committee for the University.
- Develop an institutional view of the University’s current research priorities and future opportunities, which can be fed into institutional prioritisation processes.
- Represent the views of the Faculties, the Support Services and the University senior management and the individual views of the members of the Research Committee.
- Review and provide advice on strategic policy relating to research and enterprise.
- Identify strategic and/or resource issues for recommendation to the University Planning and Resources Committee (UPARC).
- Monitor progress in implementing the University Research and Enterprise Strategy, and ensure that goals are achieved.
- Monitor performance of departments, schools and faculties against agreed performance indicators.
- Work through the Research Directors to identify and support the most appropriate portfolio of activities for each faculty and the University.
- Provide advice on managing fair and appropriate investments in research across the faculties.
- Carry out horizon scanning for major new research challenges and opportunities.
- Identify and facilitate collaborative research and enterprise activities.
- Maintain oversight of University Research Themes and University Research Institutes and carry out periodic reviews.
- Maintain oversight of research governance and integrity issues.
- Act as the project board, providing strategic management for the preparation for institutional assessments of research and enterprise.
- Maintain strategic oversight of information systems for research and enterprise.
- Oversee the allocation of University pump-priming budgets, including the Research Strategy Fund.
