University Research Institute Reviews

The University carries out reviews of all its Schools on a six yearly basis, to assure the University that its Schools are of a high quality in teaching and research, and that they are working efficiently in terms of staffing and financial matters. In 2016/2017 it was agreed that the University would also undertake reviews of the University Research Institutes (URIs). The purpose of the review process is to identify both areas for commendation and areas for improvement, and, where necessary, to provide the reviewed body with appropriate support to change and develop.

The process for undertaking reviews of the University Research Institutes (URIs) is broadly based on the approach to undertaking School Reviews, however the URI Reviews process has been developed specifically to reflect the distinctiveness of the URIs, as well as the ways in which they are different from Schools (for example, the fact that they do not have teaching provision). As this is the first year of the URI Review process, the process will be reviewed once the first URI Reviews have been completed, to ensure that it is as effective as possible.

The documents below outline the process for URI Reviews, including some helpful templates for key documents.

URI Reviews, as with Divisional and School Reviews, are co-ordinated by the University Governance Office. For more information please contact the Governance Office team.
